Built for the Android
you already have
NexGuard is an Android-first app. If your phone runs Android 8.0 (Oreo) or newer, you’re ready — no root, no special hardware, and a small download that runs on everyday devices.
Android 8.0+ (API 26) · Targets Android 16 · No root required
What you need
Requirements, in plain terms
No checklist of exotic hardware. If it’s a reasonably recent Android phone, it works.
Android 8.0 and newer
Supported from Android 8.0 Oreo (API 26) up to the latest release. The app targets Android 16, so permissions and privacy behave as the OS expects.
A small footprint
A modest download and storage footprint. NexGuard is built to run smoothly on everyday phones, not just flagships.
No root, no special hardware
Everything runs through standard Android APIs. Biometrics are used if your device has them, with a PIN or pattern as the fallback.
Under the hood
What each capability relies on
NexGuard leans on Android’s own security building blocks — here’s what powers each part.
| Capability | What it uses | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Vault | Android Keystore + AES-256-GCM | Hardware-backed key where the device supports it; never leaves the phone. |
| App Lock | Android BiometricPrompt / device credential | Uses your existing unlock method — fingerprint, face or PIN. |
| Security Score | On-device signal reads | Lock, encryption, OS patch level and app-permission state. |
| Privacy Report | Package & permission APIs | Reads which apps hold which permissions — deep-links you to settings. |
| Breach alerts | Network lookup | Needs a connection to check monitored addresses against breach data. |
