A lock on NexGuard, and a route to Android’s own

App Lock does two things, and is straight with you about both. It puts your fingerprint, face or device PIN in front of NexGuard itself — your vault, your authenticator codes, your security posture. And for your other apps, it finds the protection your version of Android actually provides and takes you to it, rather than faking one through a service that reads every screen.

Why it matters

The problem

Your phone lock protects the whole device — but once it’s open, every app is open. Hand your phone over to show a photo and your messages, banking and files are one tap away. The moment you most want a second boundary is the moment there isn’t one.

The NexGuard approach

How it works

Most app lockers get that boundary by running an accessibility service that watches every screen you open. Google Play explicitly does not count security apps as a valid use of that API, and Android is revoking it from apps that already hold it. So NexGuard locks what is genuinely ours to lock, and for everything else points you at the facility your device really has — which keeps working when the overlay approach stops.

How it works

App Lock, step by step

01

Turn on the lock

One switch in the app. It uses the biometric or PIN your phone already trusts — NexGuard never holds a password of its own.

02

Choose how soon

Lock immediately, after a minute, or after five. A short grace period means switching apps and back doesn’t prompt every time.

03

See what your device offers

NexGuard checks for Private Space, screen pinning and per-app settings on this device, and says plainly when one isn’t there.

04

Open it in one tap

Where a protection exists, NexGuard takes you straight to the right settings screen instead of leaving you to find it.

What you’ll get

Built the NexGuard way

NexGuard locks itself

Your vault, authenticator codes and security posture sit behind a fresh unlock — including switching the lock back off.

Your device’s own authentication

Biometric or device PIN, nothing new to remember and no extra secret for us to hold.

Honest about the rest

For other apps it finds the real facility on your device and opens it — and tells you when there isn’t one.

Privacy first

Designed to protect, never to snoop

App Lock is a gate, not a tracker. It cannot read other apps, cannot see what you open, and runs nothing in the background. Its settings never leave your phone — whether this device re-prompts for a fingerprint is a property of the device, not of your account, so there is no reason to send it anywhere.

Questions

App Lock, explained

Can NexGuard lock my messaging or banking app?
No, and no Android app can do it properly without an accessibility service that reads the content of every screen. Google Play does not accept security apps as a valid use of that API, and Android 17’s Advanced Protection revokes it from apps that already have it. We won’t ship something designed to stop working — so NexGuard locks itself, and points you at Private Space or screen pinning for the rest.
What is Private Space?
A separate, locked area introduced in Android 15. Apps moved into it are hidden from your app list and need their own unlock. It’s the closest thing stock Android has to a real per-app lock. NexGuard checks whether your device has it and opens it for you — and says so plainly when it doesn’t.
What happens when I hand someone my phone?
Screen pinning is the honest answer: pin the phone to the one app you’re showing them, and leaving it needs your PIN or fingerprint. NexGuard links you straight to the setting.
Does it store a separate password?
No. It uses your device’s existing biometric or PIN. There is no extra secret for NexGuard to hold, and turning the lock off requires that same authentication — otherwise anyone holding an unlocked phone could just switch it off.
Which plans include App Lock?
Pro and Family. Worth being straight about what that gate is: App Lock runs entirely on your phone, so it is a product decision rather than something a server withholds — and the route it offers you to Android’s own protections, Private Space and screen pinning, is free on any phone, with or without us.
